What Is Valve Lapping?

Valves often operate continuously under harsh conditions—such as high temperatures, high pressures, and mechanical stress—leading to defects on their sealing surfaces, including wear, deformation, scoring, or corrosion. Lapping is the core process for restoring valve seals. Through physical lapping, the valve disc and seat achieve a molecular-level fit, establishing a final line of defense against internal leakage and extending the valve’s service life.
